QUESTIONS / BEFORE WE BEGIN

Questions Before We Begin

Every home has its own questions. Here are the ones that most often matter before an interior design or furnishing project begins: what we can help with, how decisions are made, what happens when you are abroad and how to understand the scope before committing.

Ask About Your Project

What is the difference between interior design and furnishing?

Interior design concerns the direction of the space itself: how finishes, materials, decorative lighting, spatial decisions and furnishings relate to one another. Furnishing focuses on selecting and bringing in the furniture, textiles, rugs, lights and final pieces that complete the rooms. We can discuss them as related areas or define separate scopes depending on the project.

Can you select finishes and materials?

Yes. We offer interior design and finish selection. The precise materials, design documentation, technical approvals and responsibilities for purchase or installation are agreed for each project.

What if my home is already completed?

A finished home can still need furniture, lighting, curtains, rugs and styling. We begin by reviewing the rooms as they exist and establishing what should be added or changed.

Can you work on a home built by someone other than Belize Construction?

We have worked with homeowners beyond projects associated with Belize Construction. Tell us about your property and existing construction team so we can discuss the requested scope and how responsibilities would be coordinated.

Do you take on a single room?

Project minimums and the terms for single-room requests are not yet standardized in the public information. Tell us which room you have in mind and what kind of support you need, and we can discuss whether it fits the studio’s current scope.

How do you begin a project?

We start with a conversation about the home, its stage, your preferences, what you want to avoid and the way it will be used. We then discuss the scope and a suitable design and selection process.

Do I need to know my design style?

No. Examples of spaces you like can help, but we also ask about colors, textures, furniture and ordinary routines. Our role is to identify a coherent direction from those preferences, not ask you to name a style before we can begin.

Can I work with you while living outside Belize?

Yes. We use moodboards and room-by-room selection reviews, including DesignFiles for product links, pricing and approvals. We agree how decisions will be reviewed and who has authority to approve them.

How will I see the furniture before it is ordered?

Product proposals can include images, product information, links, prices and moodboards within the DesignFiles review process. Availability and exact purchasing terms are confirmed before orders are authorized.

Can I be involved in every decision?

Yes, the approval process can reflect your preferred level of involvement. Other clients may prefer to delegate more of the selection work after agreeing on a concept. The important part is establishing expectations in advance.

How many revisions are included?

Revision allowances are set in the actual project agreement. We would not want you to assume an unlimited number of revisions—or a limit that has never been agreed.

Do you source furniture locally and internationally?

Yes. Our documented sourcing work includes locally made beds, tables and curtains, as well as imported sofas, chairs, lighting and accessories. We assess each choice in relation to the room, available production options and logistics.

Do you coordinate imports and installation?

Purchasing, imports, logistics, installation and final styling are part of the documented furnishing process. The precise services, third-party responsibilities and commercial conditions are clarified in the project scope.

How long will it take to furnish my home?

It depends on the number of rooms, approvals, fabrication, supplier stock, shipping, customs, site readiness and installation. A period of around six months can be an initial reference for a full discovery-to-handover journey, but it is not a guaranteed schedule. We discuss timing using your actual selections and conditions.

What if a product is unavailable?

We revisit what that item was meant to achieve and discuss a suitable alternative before changing an approved direction or proceeding with a substitute.

What happens if an item arrives damaged?

The applicable supplier, freight, insurance and purchasing terms determine the options and responsibilities. Those terms should be explained before ordering rather than replaced with a blanket promise that cannot be substantiated.

How are design fees calculated?

The studio’s documented approach is a fixed design fee assessed against factors such as the property’s size, number of rooms and purchasing scope. It is intended to keep design compensation distinct from simply spending more on furniture. The actual fee, inclusions, exclusions and payment terms are provided in the project proposal.

Are furniture purchases included in the design fee?

Design services and product expenditure should be identified separately in your project documents. Purchasing fees, deposits, taxes and other potential costs must be clarified before you approve a scope or an order.

Can you help furnish a vacation rental?

Yes. Vacation-rental furnishing is among the services documented for Belize Design. We discuss the needs of guests, owners and ongoing maintenance without making promises about rental revenue or occupancy.

What locations do you serve?

Our project examples include homes in Mahogany Bay. Tell us where your property is located and we will discuss the availability of the services you need in that location.

What should I have ready before contacting you?

A property location, rough timeline, project stage and a short description are enough to begin a useful conversation. Plans, photos, inspiration images and a list of rooms can make the next step more specific, but you do not need a complete design brief to say hello.

What happens after I send an inquiry?

We can review the details you share and discuss whether the scope and timing suit the services available. The specific response channel and next steps should be confirmed in your correspondence; no appointment is booked automatically by submitting a project description.

Where can I learn more before reaching out?

Explore our process, projects and Journal. If you are coordinating from abroad, our guide to designing remotely addresses many of the first decisions.

Tell us what you are working on and what is still uncertain. A good first conversation can begin with one room and one question.
